Sales tax on bullion varies dramatically across states. Most have eliminated it; a handful still tax bullion at the full state sales tax rate.

Fully Exempt States

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wyoming. Several of these (Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon) have no state sales tax at all.

Partial Exemption (Threshold)

California ($2,000+), Connecticut ($1,000+), Florida ($500+), Maryland ($1,000+), Massachusetts ($1,000+), Nevada ($1,000+), New York ($1,000+), Virginia ($1,000+).

Still Taxable

Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin.
