Idaho series overview

Idaho Goldbacks arrived in 2026 as the ninth full state series. The set introduced the 1/4 Goldback and was the final series to include a 100 Goldback before that high denomination was discontinued for later releases. Existing 100s remain usable where merchants accept them; new series simply stop minting more.

Denominations note.

Introduced the 1/4 Goldback (smallest denomination to date). Last series to include the 100 Goldback before that denomination was discontinued for later series.

For artwork keys, serial checks, and mintage figures, use the official Goldback Safe. If a figure is not published there, treat it as unknown.

Practical buy and sell tips

If you want a 100 Goldback specifically, Idaho (and earlier series that issued them) is the inventory to watch. For everyday spend, the new 1/4 note is the more practical piece. Verify mintage and artwork through the official Goldback Safe rather than relying on unverified spreadsheets.

  • Check the daily Goldback exchange rate before you negotiate.
  • Ask the dealer for both ask and bid on the same denomination.
  • Prefer notes you can inspect in hand: polymer feel, reverse image, serial clarity.
  • Separate "network spend" buys from "collectible premium" buys so you do not overpay for melt.

Where Idaho Goldbacks fit vs bullion

Idaho Goldbacks push fractional gold smaller than most retail coins. That helps at the register and hurts if your only goal is stacking ounces cheaply. Keep IRA and large-ounce buys in conventional bullion.
